I STAYED IN THE PHILIPPINES BECAUSE OF THIS FAMILY - Preparing to Trek to Tboli Tribal Gem
MARCH 2016 I was 5 weeks into my 4 week trip of the Philippines and I'd seen an aerial shot of Lake Holon in Tboli South Cotabato So I took a bus to Gensan another bus to Marbel then a van to Tboli They dropped us at the tourism office and there I met David Suanzon then the supervisor of Lake Holon And so the next day we trekked to Lake Holon really my Philippines highlight and always a special place for me But starting that morning I'd been vomiting But I was so insistent that I would make it there When I came back I probably would have just continued on somewhere else but David insisted that I stay with his family for a while so I could recover and so I could see the spectacular Seslong Festival And that slowed me down enough that I felt comfortable just hanging out in Davao City for a few months during which time I met my now wife and started doing the things that would eventually lead me to become Kumander Daot I always remember David and his family and never forget how they showed that Filipino hospitality to me while I was still just a traveller And I come back here now as I start a new adventure a new phase of life back to where it all began In this video I also start the journey up to Lake Holon a kind of pilgrimage for me just getting as far as Sitio Kule the Tboli hunting village and jump-off point for treks to Holon It is a special place for me This is part 1 of a 5-video series and I'm really excited for it MERCHANDISE NOW AVAILABLE WORLDWIDE Get it here - https shop spreadshirt com kumanderdaot Follow me on FACEBOOK - https www facebook com kumanderD Daily updates on INSTAGRAM - https www instagram com kumanderdaot If you want to EMAIL ME - anselmpb googlemail com Support me on PATREON - as little as 5 a month helps me create better content https www patreon com kumanderdaot LIKE MY MUSIC Get a free one month trial of Epidemic Sound This helps me out too https www epidemicsound com referral h8cbkx WANT TO SAVE ON INTERNATIONAL MONEY TRANSFER I've been using TransferWise for years It is absolutely the best option for quick and cheap remittances https transferwise com invite u anselmp 00 00 Intro 00 57 Gensan-Tboli Road 02 51 Arriving in Tboli 05 22 Interviewing David 11 29 The Family 12 47 Preparing for the Trek 13 10 On The Road 14 54 The Road Has Washed Away 17 02 Getting Into Kule 19 51 My Narra Tree in Kule 21 18 Preview of Episode 2
